Date | [?29 September 1901] |
Description | [Cyril] Longhurst has informed him that the Joint Committee for the Antarctic Expedition have passed a resolution stating that the Finance Committee must fix George Murray's honorarium for his service to the expedition. £400 was advanced on the understanding Murray would travel as far as Melbourne. Markham suggests the final amount should be £210, about five months' worth of Murray's salary, to cover three months fitting out and two months on the voyage. Markham remembers [John Walter] Gregory's plan to get pendulums from Melbourne, but handed the matter over to [Robert Falcon] Scott in December 1900. Gregory told him later the idea was abandoned, and Scott told him in May that they would borrow pendulums from Kew. |
