The previous minutes were read.
A progress report from the Executive Committee and a letter from the Secretary of the Admiralty were read. The Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty would appoint Lieutenant Robert [Falcon] Scott to command the Expedition and Lieutenant Charles Royds as his first assistant.
It was agreed that no letter to Government regarding the Antarctic Expedition should be considered official without the approval of the Executive Committee and the signatures of the Presidents of both the Royal Society and Royal Geographical Society.
The naval officers on the Joint Committee to report to the Joint Committee on the contents of the letter from the Admiralty as soon as possible. McClintock was appointed chairman of a committee for this purpose.
Dr [Reginald] Koettlitz appointed medical officer on the expedition.
The Treasurers had signed a check for £425 to pay the naval architect W E [William Edward] Smith.
Dr H R [Hugh Robert] Mill to be added to the Meteorological Sub-Committee and Vice Admiral Markham to be added to the Hygiene Committee. |
