Items discussed:

1. Report by Professor Foster regarding delegates for a Cartell meeting of German academies, where the subject of Antarctic Exploration will be discussed. Sir Clements Markham reports that the Royal Geogrpahical Society has approached the Government concerning this. A letter sent by the RGS to Lord Salisbury [Robert Arthur Talbot Gascoyne-Cecil] in October 1897 was read. The Committee authorizes the delegates to inform the Cartell meeting that there is strong feeling in England for an Antarctic expedition, and this should be planned as far as possile in concert with the proposed German expedition.
