Items discussed:

5. Professor Michael Foster reported that grant applications had been made to the Government Grant Committee and the British Association, as recommended at the previous meeting.

6. Sir Clements Markham reported that over £14,000 had already been promised in subscriptions towards the Antarctic expedition, and informed the Committee of a larger donation he hoped might be forthcoming. The committee resolved to report to Council [of the Royal Society] about the substantial private assistance being offered to the expedition, and to recommend that the Presidents of the Royal Society and of the Royal Geographical Society write to the Prime Minister to see if the Government could afford at least some assistance.
