TitleLetter from T J J [Thomas Jefferson Jackson] See, Mare Island, California, to Sir Joseph Larmor
CreatorSee; Thomas Jefferson Jackson (1866-1962); American astronomer
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date1 October 1920
DescriptionHe thanks Larmor for his note and is glad that Larmor takes an interest in the new theory of the aether. Two more papers will appear in the Astronomische Nachrichten and some results are quite remarkable. He makes four observations: firstly on the controversy on the undulatory theory of light at the Paris Academy on 1819-39, amd See's reconciling of the difficulty, which he outlines; secondly, on his third paper in which he found an absolute method for calculating the density of the aether. Thirdly, in a fourth paper he proves the correctness of Fresnel's theory of the vibrations in polarized light, stating that he has 'no use for Relativity, and regards Einsteinism as an evidence of indistinctness of ideas'. Fourthly, and in his fifth paper, he deals with the cause of molecular forces.
