| Title | Letter from W N [William Napier] Shaw, Meteorological Office, 63 Victoria Street, London, to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | Shaw; Sir William Napier (1854-1945); British meteorologist |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 20 November 1908 |
| Description | H ethinks that Larmor's suggestion on Gold's paper ['The isothermal layer of the atmosphere and atmospheric radiation' by Ernest Gold] meets the difficulty and if he would raise this with Gold himself, as they are both in Cambridge, it would save correspondence. Shaw feels it is importrant that the paper should be published in a comprehensible form for those interested in the subject. The isothermic layer of the atmoshere has not been referred to before in a Royal Society paper, so that some introduction is necessary. The numerical result of the calculations is of vital importance. He thinks the mathematics should be in such a form as would not require high distinction in practice to understand. He comemnts on alternative journals, but arees with Larmor that the proper place if to make the paper acceptable for Royal Society publication. He will write to Gold to ask him to communicate with Larmor. |
