TitleLetter from W N [William Napier] Shaw, 10 Moreton Gardens, Old Brompton Road, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorShaw; Sir William Napier (1854-1945); British meteorologist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date6 July 1909
DescriptionIn an enclosure [not present] he sets out his ideas about Kew, attempting to formulate the view of the Royal Society as relayed by Larmor. His excuse for taking an aggressive line is that effective observatory work is of greater importance to the Meterological Office than to the National Physical Laboratory. In fact he is not aggressive, and less concerned with the observatory and experimental work than in the closeness of its association with the office. He would like the superintendent 'to exercise an intimate and reasonable influence upon the rest o fhte office', whereas at present he lives in a remote region. He is sending copies of the memorandum to Larmor, [Arthur William] Rücker, and [RichardTetley] Glazebrook.
