TitleLetter from H W [Henry William] Watson, Berkeswell Rectory, Coventry, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorWatson; Henry William (1827-1903); British clergyman
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date18 October 1887
DescriptionHe thanks Larmor for the reply to his letter and the valuable papers Larmor sent. He is glad that Larmor sticks with his approximation. Watson explains what he means by an external system when talking of a equivalent magnetic system on a closed surface, giving equations. He notes that [Horace] Lamb's paper of 1883 practically asserts a point on closed currents, but not explicitly. Watson states that whatever theoretical service 'M' [Maxwell?] may have done in displacement and displacement currents, it is questionable whether he has introduced some obscurity and difficulty in ordinary current questions.
