TitleLetter from H W [Henry William] Watson, Berkeswell Rectory, Coventry, to J [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorWatson; Henry William (1827-1903); British clergyman
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date10 February 1888
DescriptionWatson continues his contemplation and questioning of Larmor's 1884 paper, which he thinks leads to important consequences. He commences by noting the E.M.F [electromagnetic force] in a closed circuit at rest, before continuing to time variation arising from either currents of magnets in the surrounding field being fixed in position but of variable intensity, or vice versa, and discussing these. He believes that they have 'too slavishly followed [Michael] Faraday' and his canon, thinking that Faraday had no more knowledge of elementary E.M.F. than they do. He continues his discussion into an example of a simple case of the infinite plane revolving round a normal field of uniform force, giving equations.
