TitleLetter from Fred T [Frederick Thomas] Trouton, 2 Holland Park, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorTrouton; Frederick Thomas (1863-1922); Irish experimental physicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date30 March 1908
DescriptionHe called at the Royal [Society] and settled about the note, keeping it in but adding a footnote showing their awareness of Abraham's value. He gives the text of the note, concluding that this will disarm criticism. [Hendrik Antoon] Lorentz also quotes the value. Trouton thinks that [Alfred William] Porter would be willing to condense his paper, if Larmor thinks that best, although Trouton considers it quite short. It should be published as other people are taking up his ideas in America and in Britain. Callendar had him lecturing at the Royal College of Science and has taken up Porter's ideas himself. Porter does not put his work in the best form, but his priority should be protected.
