TitleLetter from Maurice F [Frederick] Fitzgerald, Queen's College, Belfast, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorFitzGerald; Maurice Frederick (1850-1927); Irish engineer
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date2 December 1907
DescriptionBrown showed him Larmor's letter about Smith's paper. Fitzgerald had looked at it after Smith had asked Brown to send it to the R.S. [Royal Society]. Fitzgerald thought it would have done for I.C.E or I.M.E [Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Mechanical Engineers]. Smith thought it belonged to subject dealt with incompletely by Wilson's paper, sent in by O. [Osborne] Reynolds. Fitzgerald supposed that the Royal Society had no objection to the subject matter and he told Brown that he need not be afraid that there was any 'wild cat matter full of fundamental errors'. Larmor's letter suggests that Reynolds shoudl not have put in the other paper. Fitzgerald notes a seeming impasse between Smith and Brown and wonders if he should see Smith. He thinks there would be no purpose to archiving the paper.
