[William Napier] Shaw did not wish this, but had no valid argument against it. As amended, the Royal Society is 'quietly ejected' from any supervision of the work, but would continue to provide funds. Geikie would propose to Council that the paragraphs on the Gassiot Committee should be restored. He gives a form of words which he judges would resolve these issues, and notes the powers of nomination and appointment of staff, which would give problems from a troublesome Director. |
