TitleLetter from Arch [Archibald] Geikie, Shepherd's Down, Haslemere, Surrey, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorGeikie; Sir Archibald (1835-1924); British geologist and historian
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date14 August 1911
DescriptionGeikie is pleased that Larmor has come through heat and the Veto Bill. He is glad that Larmor has been looking into illustrations for the [Royal Society] Record. The last edition was poor, partly due to bad printing. When [William] Huggins was doing his book on the Royal Society, he had his plates newly done and Geikie thinks that they might have them [a pencilled note by Larmor states 'presented at the R.S.']. Oxford University Press wrote to him about reproducing the Charter Book. Geikie explained that they did not wish the Declaration at the top of each page to be photographed, as many of the entries were 'written in a rather slovenly way', but to have the Declaration printed on each page, with antique type. The Press have some fonts of type used by Bishop [Timothy?] Hall in 1677, which might be used. Geikie hopes that the Charter Book will not need to be disbound.
