TitleLetter from H J H [Henry John Horstman] Fenton, 19 Brookside, Cambridge, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorFenton; Henry John Horstman (1854-1929); British chemist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date31 May 1909
DescriptionFenton is obliged to Larmor for his suggested alterations. Larmor may consider that it would have been better to omit the section, but Fenton wished to direct the attention of chemistry students who are not mathematicians, to try to understand it. It would be better if they learned the formula by heart and applied it, rather than ignoring it. Only a small percentage of chemistry students can understand the thermodynamic proofs. Fenton will send the proof back to Larmor, 'I have cut out all the [Walther Hermann] Nernst business'.
