TitleLetter from A S [Arthur Stanley] Eddington, Observatory, Cambridge, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorEddington; Sir Arthur Stanley (1882-1944); British theoretical phyicist and astrophysicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date13 April 1927
DescriptionHe thinks Larmor for the copy of his article, but he has not quite grasped Larmor's idea. He refers to an equation on page ten, noting his difficulty. More broadly, Larmor does not offer a definition of Newtonian time and because Larmor's equations are approximate, a definition cannot be inferred. Eddington notes the requirements that Newtonian time would be expected to conform to, but Larmor's attempt does not fulfill them, and he explains why he thinks this.
