DescriptionFitzgerald thinks it is possible to have a steady state with a circular or any periodic motion. He discuuses the energy as waves in the surrounding medium. He came across this in his work years ago, on the energy communicated to the aether by a variable current. He thinks his solution was feasible, but the period or amplitude could not be changed without an expenditure of an infinite amount of energy. This may explain how ions can only change partners and cannot be permanently separated. He notes a difficulty but concludes 'It's not a bad idea'. He discusses his own solution, which had waves going out instead of Larmor's stationary waves. Fitzgerald considers the rotation of nuclei and the force involved, which need not be electromagnetic or mechanical. He does not recall any investigation of the electric current required to keep a current running in a circle. He concludes by discussing rotation and charge, wondering if an electric force is involved, but imagining that Larmor has thought this through. He encloses his own acount of his 'attack on the waves generated' [not present].
