| Description | As Larmor was under some misapprehension, Eddington thinks he should set down what he had done regarding the [Hugh Frank] Newall testimonial. [Frank] Dyson wrote to ask Eddington's opinion on a portrait, and Eddington learned from one of two other astronomers that there was an independent plan for a dinner. It seemed to him that eminent Cambridge men such as Larmor should be involved, perhaps by forming an influential committee. Having learned from Larmor that he also was taking steps in the matter, but with the thought that an appeal should be limited, Eddington was satisfied that he was correct in suggesting a meeting with the Vice Chancellor. Eddington learned from the Vice Chancellor that Larmor intended to write to Nature, which he thinks is highly inadvisable. |
