TitleLetter from Henry Higgs, Treasury Chambers, Whitehall, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorHiggs; Henry (1864-1940); British civil servant and economist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date29 September 1908
DescriptionThe recent election at Cambridge has made Larmor's suggestion opportune, in expressing admiration of [Herbert Somerton] Foxwell. Higgs feels that he would not prize a portrait, but a Chair might be endowed for him. The Goldsmiths' Company might pay for half, and the banking and corporate world might co-operate. His Chair at University College London might be better endowed at least. The scheme would be widely supported and if Larmor could get some people together to agree a plan, Higgs would come.
