| Title | Letter from M J M [Micaiah John Muller] Hill, Lake View, Northwood, Middlesex, to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | Hill; Micaiah John Muller (1856-1929); British mathematician |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 6 July 1901 |
| Description | It was a pleasure to find Larmor's account of [George Francis] Fitzgerald, which he comments upon. Hill needs something to guide his own work. He gave up hydrodynamics because of the difficulty of differential equations, but he hopes to come back to it when his mathematics is stronger. He outlines his university commitments, sometimes five meetings per week at South Kensington, and twelve hour days. They tried to get [Andrew Russell] Forsyth for Principal, but now the battle is between [Arthur William] Rücker and [William] Garnett. |
