TitleLetter from E H [Edmond Herbert] Hills, 32 Prince's Gardens, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorHills; Edmond Herbert Grove- [pseud. Colonel Rivers] (1864-1922); British astronomer
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date12 February 1906
DescriptionHe sees Larmor's point about publication, but not the solution. At present, the Royal Society has most control over expenditure, via the Government Grant Committee. Any alteration should come from Larmor, therefore, since the Committee would not force a 'self denying ordinance' upon itself. The practice of paying observers maintenance costs for the whole time of their absence from home has been encouraged by the Government Grant Committee, and he gives a example. The best way to resolve the issue would be a meeting of the Society, the Grant Committee and the Royal Astronomical Society representatives. He asks if they could talk on this.
