TitleLetter from J [James] de Graaff Hunter, 18 Holland Park Avenue, London, to Sir Joseph [Larmor]
CreatorHunter; James de Graaff- (1881-1967); British geodicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date18 December 1919
DescriptionHe thanks Larmor for his trouble in reading and annotating his paper on 'The development of geodesy'. He has been to the R.C.S. [Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors] to see the Secretary, and they would like a non-mathematical resumé of the paper, if Larmor was willing to communicate one to them. If so, Hunter would send the paper to the Philosophical Magazine. He discusses [John Fillmore] Hayford's method of attacking the problem, but he did not know [Emil Johann] Wiechert's work and he will look into this. He notes that the plumbline deflection problem has been much discussed in India. He concludes by repeating his address in Chester.
