| Title | Letter from Arch [Archibald] Geikie, Shepherd's Down, Haslemere, to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | Geikie; Sir Archibald (1835-1924); British geologist and historian |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 21 March 1919 |
| Description | Geikie reminisces about their time together at Burlington House and in Italy, and he asks after Larmor whenever he is at the Athenaeum. Geikie came to London during the threatened appointment to the Directorship of the Natural History Museum. His was the lone voice of protest, and nothing would have been done but for his speaking to a prominent naturalist, which led to the letter of protest signed by leading naturalists in 'The Times', and Larmor will have seen this. He is not surprised that Larmor does not feel at home in the new House of Commons, and wonders if he may leave soon. He invites Larmor to his home and writes that he has been composing a narrative of his own life. It has been a recreation and he has no intention of publishing it. |
