| Title | Letter from J [James] William Gifford, Oaklands, Chard, to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | Gifford; James William (1856-1930); British lace manufacturer and optical physicist |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 13 October 1906 |
| Description | He encloses a second letter from [James] Simms, asking for its return. Using this and a small irregularity on one of the quartz fibres, he can see a regular slight difference in the vertical position of the divisions of the microscope field. He describes these and his work in conjunction with Simms reaching the conclusion that [Richard Tetley] Glazebrook was right, although he cannot imagine how. He can find nothing else wrong with the circle, there are no signs of it having received a blow or twist. Gifford wrote to Larmor at St. John's [College] but offers some additional remarks to that letter. |
