TitleLetter from J [James] William Gifford, Oaklands, Chard, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorGifford; James William (1856-1930); British lace manufacturer and optical physicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date18 October 1906
DescriptionHe has an unexpected confirmation of the accuracy of his refractive indices of water, given in the small table. He refers Larmor to eight measurements by different observers given in Dufet's [Recueil de] Donnees Numeriques, and he transcribes and discusses these. He thanks Larmor for a letter of 13 October, saying that he is quite ready to adopt Larmor's suggestions, if in spite of this letter he is unable to concede Gifford's accuracy.
