| Description | He has received Larmor's letter and is delighted that the printing of [John Carruthers] Beattie's magnetic survey has been confirmed. Gill would have undertaken the proof-reading if he had been in London, but he will be absent until October. Gill has been staying with his old friend Admiral Sir Frederick Richards but will leave for Strathpeffer to 'drink nasty sulphur water to stop preliminary symptoms of gout'. He will shoot grouse until the British Association meeting in Dublin. After that he will fish and shoot some of Sir Andrew Noble's stags. Gill has Encyclopaedia Britannica articles to finish while on holiday. He therefore cannot proof read and will in any event be away from libraries and unable to check maps. He wonders if one the men at Kew might help, and thinks 1,000 copies is excessive. |
