TitleLetter from A [Andrew] Gray, University of Glasgow, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorGray; Andrew (1847-1925); British physicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date29 November 1899
DescriptionSince his appointment at Glasgow, he has had a busy time. The laboratory needed re-arrangement for instruction of experimental physics, which is to be undertaken under the Natural Philosophy Department. The work is in progress, and in the hands of workmen. Gray has just had a series of experiments to test whether magnetism alters the general radiation from the surface of iron. He does not think there is any such effect, and experiments show none so far. Lord Kelvin has talked of coming into the laboratory and may do tomorrow. If Kelvin wants to continue laboratory work, it may be embarrassing for both. Gray's family will join him soon and he invites Larmor to visit.
