| Title | Letter from A [Andrew] Gray, 11 The University, Glasgow, to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | Gray; Andrew (1847-1925); British physicist |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 15 November 1915 |
| Description | He asks if he might see Larmor at the House of Commons. He has written a letter to President and Council of the Royal Society regarding the employment of younger scientific men in war work across the country. He will attend a special meeting of Council on Thursday, called to discuss his letter. He wonders if his son James, the gyrostat expert, might be put up for the Royal Society. Larmor knows his work, which includes solving the problem of the nautical pendulum and an artificial horizon for aeroplanes. These are being made and he would like Larmor to see them. Once fully protected they might be shown at the Royal Society, but Government work is slowing down workshops. The problems were set by the Admiralty and are now solved. |
