| Title | Letter from George E [Ellery] Hale, Royal Astronomical Society, Burlington House, London, to [Herbert Hall] Turner |
| Creator | Hall; George Ellery (1868-1938); American astronomer and solar physicist |
| Recipient | Turner; Herbert Hall (1861-1930); British astronomer and seismologist |
| Date | 3 May 1909 |
| Description | He arrived that morning after profitable discussions with [Heinrich Gustav Johannes] Kayser, [Pieter] Zeeman, [Jacobus Cornelius] Kapteyn and [Hendrik Antoon] Lorentz. A discussion with the latter at Leiden 'was worth a trip from America'. He gives thanks for [Joseph] Larmor's letter and is anxious to have a talk with him. He will accept the invitation to Cambridge and has written a note to him. Turner will not mind the change of plan and missing the Royal Society Club. They will meet again at Oxford for the trip to Stratford and he hopes to see Turner at the Royal Society. In a postscript, Hale states that he is glad that Larmor accepts the conclusions of his paper, although they reason things out differently. |
