| Title | Letter from G F [Gordon Ferrie] Hull, Department of Physics, Wilder Laboratory, Dartmouth College, Hanover, N H [New Hampshire], to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | Hull; Gordon Ferrie (1870-1956); Canadian physicist |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 17 September 1907 |
| Description | He appreciates the word sent to him regarding the Stark-Schuster letters. Hull is convinced that several of [Johannes] Stark's theories and observations are incorrect; some have been cleared by [Friedrich] Paschen's paper and others will be tested. Hull has been working in Hanover on the helium canal stream but has failed to find a Doppler effect of the number computed from the known hydrogen effect. He gives an account of his experiments, but thinks that the tubes he has employed may not be of the proper form. Despite his work he did not arrive at any striking results, and most of his questions have been settled by others. He has been resting for two weeks, while next week he will represent Dartmouth at the inauguration of Dr. [Robert] Falconer as President of the University of Toronto. He describes the new physics building there. Hull will have large classes whan he returns to Dartmouth and he is unsure if he will find research time. He hopes to be in England next summer and if so, he will attend the British Association meeting in Dublin, asking if Larmor will be there. |
