Title | Letter from William Huggins, 90 Upper Tulse Hill, S W [South West] London, to the Secretary [Joseph Larmor] |
Creator | Huggins; Sir William (1824-1910); British astronomer |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 6 May 1906 |
Description | Huggins is sorry to hear of Perry[?]'s accident. Huggins feels that misfortunes are following him, as he has just lost, from pneumonia, his 'oldest and most dearest personal friend'. He tells Larmor that W E [William Edward] Wilson's father has passed away. He is concerned about [William Thomson, Lord] Kelvin, who said he was well but is looking 'much thinner, and somewhat feeble'. Dewar[?] has now completed the photograph work, and Collier approves of it. He hopes the Lick Observatory is alright, but he believes there has been no news of it since the earthquake. San Jose, the nearest town, was 'much damaged. We must accept no news as good news'. |
