TitleLetter from William Huggins, 90 Upper Tulse Hill, S W [South West] London, to the Secretary [Joseph Larmor]
CreatorHuggins; Sir William (1824-1910); British astronomer
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date19 December 1909
DescriptionHuggins possesses what he thinks is a unique, nearly complete collection of [William] Herschel's papers, bought by Huggins over 60 years ago. There are 44 of Herschel's papers, beginning in 1781 .They would therefore need two volumes but is doubtful that the high cost would be recovered through sales. He asks Larmor's opinion regarding whether the Royal Society would finance this alone, or in collaboration with the RAS [Royal Astronomical Society]. He ends by noting that there have been reviews of his book in the 'Observatory' and 'Athenaeum' but not yet in the 'Times'.
