TitleLetter from Alex [Alexander] Larmor, Foyle College, Londonderry, to Joseph [Larmor]
CreatorLarmor; Alexander (d.1936); Irish mathematician and science educator
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date8 February 1897
DescriptionHe encloses [James] Perry's letter: 'I think he is a humbug'. He has taken advantage of Willie's [William Wright Larmor] capacity for reliable clerical work, giving him no opportunity to learn anything of the profession he went there to learn. He was employed in reducing the company account books, which were in a state of chaos, and he brought them up to date. Willie was transferred from the electrical department to the other office with promises, but these were never kept. He did not even have the opportunity of learning to draw. He had some hopes of getting out after Christmas, but was again turned onto the books. His mild protest was met with indignation by Perry, who has had a cheap clerk for two years. Alexander thinks that Willie should take his Batchelor of Engineering degree, after which he will have no trouble in finding a post.
