Title | Letter from A [Alexander] Larmor, the Woodlands, Wilbraham Road, Fallowfield, Manchester, to Joseph [Larmor] |
Creator | Larmor; Alexander (d.1936); Irish mathematician and science educator |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 7 May |
Description | He has written twice to Mr. Taylor for a testimonial with no reply and he lists others he has received recommendations from, thinking he may have them printed. He gives an account of a method of transformation, referring to his manuscript [not present]. Jospeh told him hat the result arrived at for cones is the general case and he must provide the more particular, in which all cones touch on one side; he can see the method but is unable to give a reason for it. He thinks his other deductions in the manuscript are sound, at least they appear so to him. Mr. Sinclair says he can write to W.P. Sinclair, M.P. for Falkirk on Alexander's behalf. Testimonials must be sent by next Saturday. [Arthur] Schuster said he would get [Henry Enfield] Roscoe to speak to Balfour as a letter would not receive attention in the present state of politics. Lord Rayleigh may be useful if Balfour consults him. |
