TitleLetter from O J L [Oliver Joseph Lodge], 2 Grove Park, Liverpool, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorLodge; Sir Oliver Joseph (1851-1940); British physicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date10 December 1893
DescriptionLarmor 'is a brick' to send the manuscript and he will read it. He gives some notes and queries on Larmor's theory, commencing with 'Small velocity & big density means big momentum for given energy'. A magnetic vortex must have no momentum, but an electric vortex or magnetic iron ring should have some, he wonders. In a ring electromagnet, its lines of force are closed in on itself and it exerts no force, but he wonders if it should 'kick' if freely suspended at every reversal. He asks how he should try such an experiment, speculating on effects.
