Title | Letter from [Oliver Joseph Lodge], 2 Grove Park, Liverpool, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Lodge; Sir Oliver Joseph (1851-1940); British physicist |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 5 May 1895 |
Description | Lodge describes a channel of mercury conveying a current which tends which swell outwards and, if straight, stretched and thins. He sketches how it looks under the microscope when a strong current is applied to mercury in two pools with a channel between. He then describes four pools with a cruciform channel between, giving the shape of the mercury in cross-section. He sends these particulars not knowing if they will be useful to Larmor or not. |
