TitleLetter from O J L [Oliver Joseph Lodge], 2 Grove Park, Liverpool, to [Arthur] Rucker
CreatorLodge; Sir Oliver Joseph (1851-1940); British physicist
RecipientRücker; Sir Arthur William (1848-1915); British physicist
Date12 February 1897
DescriptionToday he saw the broadening of the [spectral] line when looking along the line of force and verified 'the circular polarization business'. He sketches the experimental set-up and discusses it, saying that he eventually saw the fine reversed line down each of the sodium lines, as [Pieter] Zeeman did, making it look as if each were double. When the magnet was on, this fine dark line always disappeared. He asks that the note is sent on to [Jospeh] Larmor, as he may be interested in the details.
