Title | Letter from O J L [Oliver Joseph Lodge], The University, Birmingham, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Lodge; Sir Oliver Joseph (1851-1940); British physicist |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 15 November 1901 |
Description | He did not understand a mysterious reference in Larmor's letter, but received news from Perry that Larmor has been appointed Secretary of the Royal Society. Lodge feels jealousy about the time to be taken from his purely scientific work, but accepts that Larmor is best placed to carry on 'the old Stokes tradition'. He hopes it will allow Larmor to give up examining work and to keep him in contact with 'science in the making'. He offers his congratulations. |
