TitleLetter from O J L [Oliver Joseph Lodge], Mariemont, Edgbaston, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorLodge; Sir Oliver Joseph (1851-1940); British physicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date17 June 1906
DescriptionLarmor should not make himself responsible for everything at the Royal Society. Lodge feels sorry that Larmor has helped and improved [John Ambrose?] Fleming; Lodge does not like him and thinks he has not 'played fair' since they were chemical students together. On Durrant [?] and diffusion, 'let them have their heads', as an experimenter should be encouraged, but he he misinterprets it would not matter as he carries no authority. 'Too much learning kills experiment'. He is delighted that [John] Perry is mended. He advises Larmor not to overwork. He wonders what Larmor makes of J.J. [Joseph John] Thomson's June paper in the Philosophical Magazine; Lodge has tried to pick holes in it, but cannot.
