TitleLetter from O J L [Oliver Joseph Lodge], Mariemont, Edgbaston, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorLodge; Sir Oliver Joseph (1851-1940); British physicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date28 January 1908
DescriptionLodge has long wanted to make a communication on tuning in wireless telegraphy. He has 'masses of notebooks full of data' but will not trouble Larmor with details. He has written out a general plan for a new chapter in his 'ancient book' on the subject and has put it into type, which he proposes to send to Larmor, He wonders whether he ought to wait and send figures and measurements. He encloses a copy of the paper as it now stands. The main novel feature is that the Earth connection is only a disturbance, making tuning almost impossible. Their areas are insulated and therefore tuning is accurate and sharp. He notes the effect of lowering an aerial, which he does not think anyone knows yet.
