Title | Letter from Horace Lamb, Medindee, Burton Road, Didsbury, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Lamb; Sir Horace (1849-1934); British mathematician |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 25 April 1894 |
Description | He is indebted to Larmor for the trouble taken about the 'impulse'. The passage was copied from the first edition [of Hydrodynamics] and was an attempt to simplify Thomson's treatment. He does not like to admit that it was not rigorous, but he disliked the artifice. Larmor's version is a great improvement. Lamb's treatment of Legrange and cyclic motion was written a long time ago and he wonders whether to go back to 'Least Action'. He will take care of Larmor manuscript and return it. He is much harrasssed by examination papers at present. He asks for material on electricity to think about. |
