Title | Letter from H M [Hector Munro] Macdonald, 52 College Bounds, Aberdeen, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Macdonald; Hector Munro (1865-1935); British mathematician |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 5 May 1909 |
Description | He is sending a cheque for the Bertholet memorial and a guinea for the Medici print of Lady [Emma] Hamilton, which Larmor might get when he is in town, as Macdonald has forgotten the address from the advertisement. He has been doing some arithmetic on his results, and sends Larmor some samples: on waves of a fourth or a fifth of a mile in length, the amplitude at a distance of 260 miles is roughly a quarter of what it would be without the Earth intervening, and he gives the value for 400 miles. [Augustus Edward Hough] Love had sent [Harry] Bateman's revised paper which had taken one day to amend, less than the time Macdonald spent reading it. He supposes he must read it, but thinks there is a strong case against it. |
