DescriptionHe sends the article [for the supplement of the Encyclopaedia Britannica] thinking that the commission was a vague one. It did not occur to him that he had not received all of the instructions. His aim was to give a self-contained acoount of the subject assuming no previous knowledge in the reader. He has not referred to other articles on the subject. He asks Larmor to criticise the piece freely.
