Title | Letter from H M [Hector Munro] Macdonald, 52 College Bounds, Aberdeen, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Macdonald; Hector Munro (1865-1935); British mathematician |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 7 April 1915 |
Description | He sent Larmor's letter to [William Mitchison] Hicks and received his reply. Macdonald has signed the form to award the [Adams] Prize to [Geoffrey Ingram] Taylor. Larmor's argument on the destination of the money if the prize was not awarded convinced Macdonald, as he is suffering from library and museum extensions at Aberdeen. Larmor will ensure that if published, the blemishes are removed, some of which reappear in the Philosophical Transactions. Macdonald had a long weekend in Deeside, and is about to go to Glasgow, where trawlers and flat-bottomed boats are being built, the latter for landing troops. The first batch from the second battalion of Territorials has departed for France and more men have arrived for training, 'Khaki is everywhere'. One of his former pupils, a mathematics teacher at a big secondary school, is joining up for active service. |
