Title | Letter from A A [Albert Abraham] Michelson, Ryerson Physical Laboratory, University of Chicago, Chicago, to Sir Joseph Larmor, Cambridge, England |
Creator | Michelson; Albert Abraham (1852-1931); American physicist |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 5 May 1925 |
Description | He has Larmor's letter and will be pleased to read what he has to say in the 'Nature' letter about the rotational experiment. If Michelson had known that the experiment had the bearing suggested, it might have been possible to get accurate results for Larmor's purpose. It was surprising to find the estimated error mentoned in Michelson's article was so small. He thinks that any attempt to deduce more from his results would be 'illusive', giving his reasons. If the experiment was done for Larmor's purpose it would be necessary to have a monochromatic light circuit several miles in length; this would be difficult, expensive, but not impossible. |
