| Title | Letter from Arthur W [William] Rücker, the Royal Society, Burlington House, London, to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | Rücker, Sir Arthur William (1848–1915), British physicist |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 27 June 1899 |
| Description | The end Larmor seeks can be attained without recasting the Sectional Committees. All papers in which mathematics were the object of the investigation have gone to the Mathematics Committee; those used as instruments in physical enquiries went to the Physics and Chemistry Committee. If Larmor thinks that decisions were reached imperfectly, he will take the opinion of the Chairman of the Mathematics Committee on whether he should have a say. The two biological committees can consider the same paper. Statistics have been formally before the Mathematics Committee, but Francis Galton has refereed nearly all of them.
With a note by Michael Foster on the difference between Sectional Committee and Boards of the Government Grant. |
