Title | Letter from B [Benjamin] Osgood Peirce, Hotel Abbotsford, Upper Montague Street, London, to J [Joseph] Larmor, St. John's College, Cambridge |
Creator | Peirce; Benjamin Osgood (1854-1914); American mathematician |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | [June 1909] |
Description | Peirce has been attempting to fix a time for his visit to see Larmor and hoped that Larmor might say something about when he would have leisure. He has only been able to ascertain that the races [rowing bump races] are now on and that Larmor would likely be engaged with friends. Peirce and his family have found quarters in the small hotel and although his daughters have been ill and are not strong, they appreciate Larmor's courtesy in including them and their mother in his hospitality. They would very much like to see the races in Cambridge. Peirce thanks his for the privileges of visiting the Royal Observatory and the Royal Society, although he was abashed by Sir Archibald's [Geikie's] invitation to speak.
