TitleLetter from E [Ernest] Rutherford, 17 Wilmslow Road, Withington, Manchester, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorRutherford; Ernest; Baron Rutherford of Nelson (1871-1937); New Zealand physicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date3 April 1919
DescriptionHe appreciates Larmor's telegrams and letter, and all the trouble he has taken over the Cavendish. But for Larmor's insistence, he would still be professor in Manchester 'enjoying the fleshpots of Egypt'. He would be alarmed if he knew what Manchester had offered to retain him. He feels he can move things in a physical direction and he is sure that his ideas for expansion will outstrip finance. On the Fellowship and M.A., he does not want to give Larmor an answer before he has seen the situation in Cambridge. Rutherford will visit Cambridge next week and he asks if Larmor, the Vice-Chancellor and J.J.T. [Joseph John Thomson] will be able to meet him. His wife is travelling to find a future home there.
