CreatorOnnes; Heike Kamerlingh (1853-1926); Dutch physicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date7 February 1925
DescriptionOnnes, [Pieter] Zeeman and Professor [Adriaan Daniel] Fokker constitute an executive committee to prepare for the golden jubilee of [Hendrik] Lorentz's doctorate. They wish to raise a fund to further theoretical physics. There are different lines of action for the fund, but in all cases ensuring that Lorentz continues in a manner suitable for his age. They hope to raise £4,000-£5,000 and both national and international committees will be constituted. He gives his thoughts on how national committees should be formed, representing disciplines associated with Lorentz's work and with interested scientists. For England, he has support from [Joseph John] Thomson, [William Henry] Bragg, [Ernest] Rutherford and [James Hopwood] Jeans, with W.B. [William Bradley] Woodhouse and he hopes that Larmor will join them. He asks if Larmor might pay a visit.
