| Description | Oval head and shoulders portrait of Newton above a pedestal decorated with laurel, a lamp, books and instruments. A pyramid structure is visible behine and below Newton a classical scene [two muses?] within a circular frame. Inscribed: "Sr. ISAAC NEWTON I. Houbraken sculpsit. In the possession of John Conduit Esqr. G Kneller pinx."
Variation on Keynes, XLIII-2. Keynes provides th edate 1743 as part of the inscription, not present here. |
