| Description | Prideaux reports his arrival in Lyon via Fountain Bleau [Fontainebleau. He was disappointed by Fontainbleau, particularly the delapidated Gallery of Ulysses which he briefly decribes. At Lyon has met with a Mrs Brown of Lincoln and her daughter who are frinds of Folkes' brother. They are alone with no knowledge of the French language. Mr Brown is at Aix for his health and Prideaux will assist them in joining him there so is leaving Lyon sooner than planned. Describes Lyon as a "fine town" and outlines the great buildings and view he can see from his inn near the Palais Royall. Has been to the well appointed library of the Jesuits where he saw "a book of Giullieri" with an inscription in French giving the provenance as the large library of Monsieur Grolier an ambassador to Rome for King Francis 5th. Has received a letter from Mr Jackson and replied regarding payment of £200 to his brother Richard Jackson, which he asks Folkes to facilitate. Sends regards from himself and Humph [Humphrey Prideaux] to Folkes and the "young ladies". |
